How to Check In With Your Child
Set aside time to talk: 15 minutes or longer is recommended. Get rid of distractions. This time is just about checking in. Avoid phones, tablets and television.
Ask open-ended questions: Start a discussion by asking “What went well today?” and “What could have gone better?”
Listen: Let them express their ideas fully before you respond.
Come up with solutions together: Help them come up with ideas for how to make the next day better, or identify someone who can help, like a therapist, a doctor or a pastor.
Schedule time for your next check-in: Be sure to create a routine for check-ins, whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly.

Mobile Crisis Units
The call centers will do a crisis risk assessment over the phone, de-escalate, and provide support and resources. The mobile unit will be dispatched to the scene if necessary. When in doubt, you can always call 988 and they can dispatch your local mobile crisis unit if one is available.

Independence Blue Cross: Behavioral Health Care Navigation Team
Experience virtual or in-person visits with participating in-network behavioral health providers (psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors) with the Behavioral Health Care Navigation team.
Independence Blue Cross has also created relationships with many in-network behavioral health providers to ensure you can quickly access high-quality, culturally responsive care for general mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and stress, and specialty behavioral health conditions, including care for children, substance use disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder.
How to Find a Provider
- Call 1-800-688-1911 to speak with the Behavioral Health Care Navigation team (this phone number is also on the back of your Independence Blue Cross insurance card). The team can:
- Assist by matching you with an in-network provider who fits your specific needs, schedule an appointment for you with an in-network provider within 7 days, or identify urgent or escalating conditions and provide you with a direct path to care.
- If you need immediate assistance, call or text 988 to connect with a counselor 24/7
- Access Teladoc, IBC's telemedicine partner through your IBX.com account
- Log onto your IBX.com account
- Click on Access Virtual Care
- Sign in or Register now if new to using Teladoc Health (no employer code is needed)
- Search online via Independence Blue Cross
- Log in to your IBX.com account
- Click on "Find a Doctor" and search by specialty or name
- Virtual: $0 (no co-pay)
- In person:
- Base plan: $60

CarePlus
As an extension of the EAP, the CarePlus program provides access to additional counseling through RBC.
This program offers both cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and traditional counselling options, allowing you and your dependents to choose the approach that best meets your needs. While there is a cost associated with these services, you can use your paramedical allowances to help offset expenses.
CarePlus is designed to offer more comprehensive, ongoing support for mental health and well-being, ensuring continuity of care beyond the initial EAP sessions. Call RBC's Mental Health & Well-being Support Line at 1-877-630-6701 to learn more. Representatives are available 24/7 to speak with you.
